New Delhi: First player to go under the hammer at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 auction was Shikhar Dhawan. Kings XI Punjab placed a victorious bid of INR 5.2 Crore, however, it was Sunrisers Hyderabad, who snapped up the opener thanks to the Right to Match (RTM) card. Apart from him, Sunrisers used RTM cards while bringing back Afghanistan spin sensation Rashid Khan and all-rounder Deepak Hooda. But it was SRH’s winning bid of INR 11 Crore for middle-order batsman Manish Pandey that hogged most of the limelight on day 1 of the IPL 2018 auction.
While SRH broke the bank for Pandey, they stole players like Shakib Al Hasan, Carlos Brathwaite, Chris Jordan, Sandeep Sharma, Mohammad Nabi and Yusuf Pathan at a bargain price. The 2016 champions had retained captain, David Warner and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, ahead of the auctions.
