Sri Lanka Cricket has announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming South Africa tour which is scheduled to start on July 12 at Galle International Stadium in Galle. Sri Lanka will host South Africa for two Tests, five ODIs and a one-off T20I during the one-month long tour. Former skipper Angelo Matthews makes a return to the Lankan squad the after birth of his second child. It is surprising to see Dinesh Chandimal’s name features in the list despite a pending ban on him over the ball-tampering issue. Rangana Herath and Kusal Perera have been included in the preliminary squad, but they will have to pass the fitness test, before making it to the first XI. These members of the touring Sri Lankan outfit will have to face a hearing slated for July 10. The problem is if they lose the hearing, they may end up facing a two-Test ban, which would hurt the host’s against South Africa. The touring South African team has already arrived in Sri Lanka and here is proof of that.
The tour will start with the two-match Test series which starts on July 12, it will be followed by a five-match ODI series which be kicked off in Dambulla on July 29. South Africa’s tour will end with a one-off T20I in Colombo on August 14.
