Just days after Urvil Patel broke Rishabh Pant’s record to score the fastest century by an Indian in T20 cricket, this record has been equaled in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Tournament T20 match at the Niranjan Shah Stadium ground in Rajkot on Thursday. Urvil Patel had smashed 28-ball century against Tripura in Indore last week but a rising star of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team has equaled this mark.

We are talking about Punjab and SRH opener Abhishek Sharma. The left-handed batter clobbered 28-ball hundred against Meghalaya to power his side to seven-wicket win with more than 10 overs to spare while chasing 144 to win.

Punjab captain Abhishek remained unbeaten on 106 off 29 balls with 11 sixes and 8 fours as his side chased down the total in just 9.3 overs. He, thus, equaled Gujarat batter Urvil’s record for fastest ton by an Indian in T20 cricket. Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant earlier held this record with a century off 32 balls.

Abhishek Sharma was one of five players retained by SRH ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. He will get a whopping salary of Rs 14 crore – a massive rise from Rs 6.5 crore that he was getting since the IPL 2025 season.
