New Delhi: Abhishek Nayar is widely regarded as one of the finest coaches in the game. After serving as India’s assistant coach for six months, he rejoined the Kolkata Knight Riders and was most recently appointed as the head coach of the UP Warriorz. In addition to IPL and WPL teams eager to sign him, while individual players frequently seek his advice.

Recently, India ODI captain Rohit Sharma was seen training with Nayar before making a comeback in the ODI team for the Australia series. KL Rahul too, acknowledged Nayar’s role in his Champions Trophy success and trained under him ahead of the five-match Test series against England.

Ahead of the Asia Cup, Rinku Singh also turned to Abhishek. The selectors have shown faith in the left-handed batter, who hasn’t been in a great form past 12 months or so. Abhishek and Rinku have been teammates since 2018, and the coach knows his game well compared to anyone.

“Yes, a lot of work is going on to better my batting, for example, at the KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) Academy with Abhishek (Nayar) Sir,” Rinku told RevSportz when asked about his preparations for the Asia Cup.

Rinku admitted he has areas to improve before the Asia Cup 2025 begins

Rinku admits he has areas to improve. With T20 cricket constantly evolving, the left-hander is working on expanding his range of shots while also looking after his weaknesses. Training at the KKR Academy under Abhishek Nayar, he has mainly focused on handling short-pitched bowling and developing strokes behind the wicket.

KKR had a disappointing campaign in IPL 2025. With skipper Shreyas Iyer leaving, the batting lineup looked unsettled, and Rinku too struggled to make an impact. He didn’t feature in every game and managed an average of under 30. While his strike rate of 153 was decent, it fell short of expectations as a finisher.

“We are working on the short ball, sweep shot, clap shot, etcetera. If I have performed well in 2023, then people would expect to see that again from me. Hence, I am working on strengthening my weak points. Working on improving my shots at KKR Academy so that I can gain expertise in every kind of shot and walk into the upcoming tournaments confidently,” Rinku added.
