Sumit Kumar of India settled down for a silver medal in the men’s Freestyle 125 kg category on the final day of the Asian Wrestling Championships here on Sunday.

Sumit was defeated 2-6 by Yadollah Mohammadkazem Mohebi of Iran in the final.

The Iranian wrestler was technically superior to the Indian wrestler and dominated most of the contest despite briefly conceding the lead in the first round.

India thus ended the tournament with a total of 10 medals — one gold, five silver and four bronze.

India men currently have four medals (one gold, one silver and two bronze) in men’s category of Asian Wrestling Championships. Earlier on Saturday, Bajrang Punia gave India the first gold medal in the tournament.

In the women category, Sarita Mann wasted the opportunity to become the first woman to win the gold medal in this tournament. India’s Olympic medal winning wrestler Sakshi Malik earlier won the silver medal.

Currently, India gained 62 points in the ongoing tournament while Japan and China gained 70 and 54 points.
