Sunil Subramaniam Appointed as Administrative Manager of Team India

Sunil Subramaniam, a highly rated coach in Tamil Nadu, has worked with a lot of top cricketers like Indian off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin during his initial days at the international level.

Former Tamil Nadu (TN) cricketer Sunil Subramaniam appointed as Team Manager of Indian senior team on Friday, reported news agency ANI.

Sunil, a highly rated coach in Tamil Nadu, has worked with a lot of top cricketers like Indian off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin during his initial days at the international level.

BCCI had received 35 applicants out of which six people had appeared for an interview for manager’s post.

The 50-year-old former TN left-arm spinner appeared for the interview on July 25. BCCI had shortlisted 13 candidates for the manager post.

Earlier, this month BCCI had sought applications for the post, with July 21 was the deadline for submission of applications.

Sunil as a cricketer claimed 285 wickets at an average of 23.53 with 20 five-wicket hauls and four 10-wicket match hauls to his credit. During the latter half of his first-class career, Sunil went on to represent Assam. Though he has a good record in first class cricket, he didn’t get a chance to play for India because of the presence of famous spin quartet Erapalli Prasanna and Srinivas Venkataraghavan (both off spinners), Bhagwat Chandrasekhar (a leg spinner), and Bishen Singh Bedi (a left arm spinner).

He has worked with many TN cricketers in remodeling their bowling action after being reported for suspect action. TN pacer T Natarajan, who was suspended after his debut first-class cricket, got back into the light after working with the former TN spinner at the TNCA academy.

Sunil was also behind the comeback of former Chennai Super Kings spinner R Karthikeyan, who was reported for the illegal action in a TNCA first division league match a few years ago. Now, Karthikeyan plays for Madurai Supergiant in the TNPL.
