The Australian Women’s Cricket team led by Alyssa Healy and Co successfully defended their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup crown by defeating India by 85 runs in the final on Sunday in front of a packed Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Molly Strano and Sophie Molineux were the ones in particular who dazzled for the Aussies on the stage with Perry, while Erin Burns, who didn’t make it on the field during the tournament, certainly made the most of her opportunity on stage with the popstar.
The Australian team was understandably ecstatic after the win.
Opting to bat, Australia rode on brilliant fifties by openers Alyssa Healy (75) and Beth Mooney (78 not out) to post 184 for four before their bowlers, led by Megan Schutt (4/18) and Jess Jonassen (3/20), put up a disciplined effort to win their fifth title.
Chasing a challenging target, India, featuring in their maiden final of the tournament, couldn’t handle the pressure and were bundled out for 99 in 19.1 overs. For Australia, Megan Schutt with four wickets for 18 runs was the pick of the bowlers.
