The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are set to announced the 15-member team for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026 at the BCCI HQ in Mumbai on Saturday (December 20). Apart from the T20 World Cup squad, the selectors will also pick the team for the five-match T20I series against New Zealand which will begin in Nagpur on January 21.

The Team India squad under captain Suryakumar Yadav should be on expected lines with Shubman Gill set to named as his deputy. Indian T20I skipper has been in woeful form in this format since last year after taking over from Rohit Sharma, failing to score a single fifty in T20I cricket.

Gill, who is missing the fifth T20 against South Africa in Ahmedabad on Friday due to injury, is set to named as the vice-captain too. The rest of the playing 11 from Abhishek Sharma to Tilak Varma to Hardik Pandya to Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh picks itself.

All-rounder Axar Patel, who is missing last three T20I matches vs South Africa due to injury, should be picked as the main spin-bowling all-rounder. Gujarat Titans star Washington Sundar will also be in the squad as backup for Axar.

Chennai Super Kings all-rounder and T20 World Cup 2024 winner Shivam Dube will also make it to the 15-member squad as backup for Hardik as the medium-pace all-rounder. Dube ability to hit the spinners will go a long way to his selection considering that the T20 World Cup 2026 will be playing in India and Sri Lanka from February 7.

Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy will be India’s lead spinners in the squad with world No. 1 T20I bowler Chakravarthy playing ahead of the Delhi Capitals chinaman bowler. New Chennai Super Kings recruit Sanju Samson is expected to make the squad as well as back up for Jitesh Sharma, although a fine knock in 5th T20 vs SA at the Narendra Modi Stadium should push him up the pecking order.
