Joining the bandwagon, Tennis legend Roger Federer has also stepped forward to help the needy and vulnerable families in Switzerland amid the COVID-19 pandemic which has swept the globe. On Wednesday, Federer along with his wife Mika announced the donation of one million Swiss Francs (Rs 7.70 crore) for the people who are battling for their lives in the wake of deadly virus. The 38-year-old Federer made the annoucement on his official Instagram handle on Wednesday. He also urged for support from others to contribute and help the families in Switzerland wherein more than 100 people have lost their lives. “Our contribution is just a start. We hope that others might join in supporting more families in need. Together we can overcome this crisis! Stay healthy!” the 20-time Grand Slam champion wrote on Instagram.
With this, Federer has joined Simona Halep among the contributors from the Tennis world. The former women’s world No.1 Halep last week had announced that she would be donating money to pay for medical equipment in her home country of Romania.
In order to curb the spread of the global pandemic, Switzerland is under a lockdown with non-essential business allowed till April 19.
