Meghalaya batter Akash Kumar Choudhary made history in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy match against Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday (November 9) at the C.K. Pithwala Ground in Surat by scoring a quick 50 off just 14 balls, helping his team move towards a big win in the game.
Akash came in to bat at number eight when the team was already in a strong position, after opener Arpit Bhatewara scored a double hundred and captain Kishan Lyndoh along with Rahul Dadal hit centuries. The 25-year-old batted aggressively, hitting eight sixes in his 14-ball fifty, giving the team a fast finish before they declared at 628/6.
During his innings, Akash hit eight consecutive sixes, including six in a single over against Limbar Devi. He became only the third player ever in first-class cricket to do this and the second Indian after Ravi Shastri. His eight sixes in a row are now the most in cricket history, surpassing the previous record of six, which was shared by three players.

Unlike Akash Kumar Choudhary, Ravi Shastri and Gary Sobers, Mike Procter did not hit all sixes in a single over. Instead, he achieved his record across two different overs. Choudhary scored his fifty in only 11 balls, setting a new world record. He surpassed Wayne White’s record, which had lasted for 13 years.

For those who don’t know, Akash is a fast-bowling all-rounder and opened the bowling for his team. He also took a wicket before the Tea break, dismissing Arunachal opener Myendung Singpho. By the end of the second session, Meghalaya had taken four wickets, and Arunachal had scored only 37 runs.
