Marlon Samuels played a match-winning knock of unbeaten 85 against England in the final of ICC World T20 2016. And fittingly was awarded Man of the Match. At the post-match presentation and presser, Samuels took a dig at former Australian cricketer and commentator Shane Warne. Samuels during the presentation ceremony said, “I woke up this morning with one thing on my mind. Shane Warne has been talking continuously, and all I want to say is this (MoM award) is for Shane Warne. I answer with the bat, not the mic. I know about finals, when I come to finals, I turn up for the team.” Also Read- West Indies hero Marlon Samuels fined for foul-mouth rant
There is a little history why Samuels was all fired up against Warne, and it goes back to 2013 Big Bash League in Australia. During a Big Bash match between Melbourne Stars (Warne’s team) and Melbourne Renegade (Samuels’ team) the duo had an ugly on-field altercation.
During the match, Samuels stopped David Hussey from running the second run, and that was playing on Warne’s mind when he came to bowl. The spinner at the end of his over went straight towards Samuels, who was batting and dished out some harsh words and even grabbed his jersey.
It did not stop there, and the duo kept coming back at each other. While fielding Warne threw the ball at Samuels and in return, the batsman tossed his bat over Warne’s head.
Umpires eventually had to intervene, and the play was resumed. Both the players were then fined, and Warne even faced a one-match ban.
Here is the recap video what all happened during that BBL match.
You think it all started and ended there? Neah! Warne, who does the commentary these days, has been critical of Samuels. At the start of this year, during the third and final Test between Australia and West Indies at Sydney, Warne on air slammed Samuels for his ‘Horrific’ running.
Not only there, Warne during the West Indies’ World T20 2016 semi-final clash against India once again hit back at the 35-year old batsman and tagged Samuels’ shot, which led to his dismissal, as “embarrassing” and “pretty poor”.

During the post-match presser, Samuels, when asked about his feud with Warne said, “I played a Test series in Australia and every day, Shane Warne has a problem with me. I’ve never disrespected him. I don’t know. Maybe because my face is real and his face is not?”
Well, Samuels did best to answer Warne with the bat, but probably went overboard with his post-match presentation jibe, something that could have been avoided.
