Hosts United Arab Emirates will take on Oman in a Group A match of the Asia Cup 2025 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Monday. It is the first game of a double header, with Sri Lanka taking on Hong Kong in a Group B match later in the day.
Both UAE and Oman will know this is their one and possibly only chance to get out of the bottom of the table in Group A. Muhammad Waseem’s side lost their opening match to India by nine wickets, bundled out for just 57. Their final game of the tournament will be against Salman Ali Agha’s Pakistan and a defeat in that contest seems inevitable for the hosts.
Oman, on the other hand, lost their opening game to Pakistan by 93 runs last week, bundled out for only 67 in replay to Pakistan’s 160. Both UAE and Oman have lost their last six T20I matches. UAE’s losing run started against Uganda in July while Oman’s streak dates back to December last year – having lost to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and USA.
UAE and Oman have faced each other five times in T20I cricket in the past – with the Muhammed Waseem’s side winning 3 times and Oman coming out victorious twice.
