Rajasthan Royals' teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has become the first uncapped batter to score 700 runs in an Indian Premier League season. The 15-year-old, who is the current Orange Cap holder, reached this milestone with another quickfire half-century at the PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi needed 20 only runs to get there and he did so by taking on Kagiso Rabada. Rajasthan captain Riyan Parag chose to bat first after winning the toss and his teenage opener made sure things were taken care of. Sooryvanshi has has 500 runs in the powerplay itself and nearly 200 with boundaries. Becoming the only uncapped to score 700 is just another feather on his already filled cap.
His monumental knock also helped him become the fastest batter ever to cross the 1,000-run milestone in the IPL in terms of balls faced. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi took just 440 deliveries to overtake former Kolkata Knight Rider all-rounder Andre Russell's previous record of 545 balls.
In terms of innings taken, Sooryavanshi accomplished this feat in 23, which is the 2nd fewest taken to reach 1,000 runs in the cash-rich league's history. Only former Punjab Kings batter Shaun Marsh took lesser (21).
By batting deeper into the innings than ever before, surviving until the 18th over for the first time in his career, he also faced a personal-record of most deliveries (47). As a matter of fact, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's 31-ball half-century is the slowest he has ever scored in the competition.
However, just as it started to look like as if he is nearing towards his century, Sooryavanshi's knocked ended in a heartbreak when he was dismissed in the 90s for the third time in his short IPL career.
With this, he joined the likes of KL Rahul, David Warner, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Glenn Maxwell for the most dismissals in 90s in IPL history. Despite missing out on a century, he took his seasonal tally to an astonishing 776 runs.
