It is a signature move of MS Dhoni and he has made it his own after years of practice. It is extremely streetsmart and it seems his company has helped young Kishan replicate the same during the match.
It happened during the 27.2 over of the match when left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem was bowling. Maharashtra batsmen Motwani and RA Tripathi were batting and had already built a good partnership for the side. Tripathi on strike wanted to squeeze in a single by dropping the ball in the vacant leg side with soft hands and he took off, only to realise that Kishan was quick to the ball and then the back flick came. It may not have resulted in a wicket but he was successful in hitting the bull’s eye. What was impressive to see was how quick the wicketkeeper reached the ball and released it and still found the target.
He had done something similar during the Duleep Trophy and he is also known to play Dhoni’s signature helicopter shot. Playing for Mumbai Indians, he also played that helicopter shot and impressed fans. The young turk seems to be on the right track but there is a long way to go.
Co-incidentally, both MS Dhoni and Ishan Kishan hail from the state of Jharkhand.
