New Delhi: Vijay Mallya has come out strong at critics after his Force India finished fourth place in the 2017 Formula 1 constructors’ championship. Earlier this year, at the team’s launch Mallya had said that Force India could finish third in the championship after Renault F1’s managing director Cyril Abiteboul was of the view that small teams would struggle.

However, despite not finishing where Mallya intended to, Force India had a repeat of 2016, when they ended fourth. Meanwhile, Mallya has praised team’s ability to perform consistently despite the low budget.

“We set out to achieve third but landed up with fourth for the second year running. I had many sceptics who I advise to eat their own words and I hope it tastes good,” Mallya was quoted as saying by ESPN.in at the Autosport Awards.

“I’m very proud that with our limited resource we’ve been able to punch well above our weight,” he added.

Mallya also added that for next year the target will be set high again. “I have a great team of racers, with racing in their blood and who know how to make the most of what we have. We never give up. The targets for 2018 will be set high again and we’re ready for our competition.”
