India captain Virat Kohli kept the hopes alive till he was in the middle during the 3rd ODI at Ranchi. Kohli slammed his 41st ODI ton but unfortunately could not take his side over the line as India lost by 32 runs. One felt Kohli’s dismissal was the turning point of the match as he was playing superbly. Kohli was dismissed by Zampa when India was on 217 in the 38th over with a delivery similar to the one that brought an end to Dhoni’s stay. Kohli’s scintillating knock was laced with 16 fours and a six. This was also his second ton on the trot as he became the fastest to breach 4000 ODI runs as captain. It was also his 19th ton as captain of India. While he was in the middle he hit boundaries at will.

Here is his dismissal:

Meanwhile, with the win, Australia has managed to stay afloat in the ongoing five-match series. The Aussie win also sets up the remainder of the series beautifully. It was Usman Khawaja, whose century helped Australia set a mammoth 314 for India to chase. Zampa, Richardson, and Cummins were the pick of the bowlers as they bagged three wickets apiece.

The Men in Blue will lock horns with each other in a couple of days time where India would be hoping to take an unassailable 3-1 lead. The 4th ODI is slated to take place in Mohali on March 10. From India’s point of view, they would hope Kohli hits a hattrick of tons as that would brighten their chances of a win.
