ICC World Cup: Sachin Tendulkar is arguably the most successful cricketer in the world and his innumerable records speak for him. With the World Cup around the corner, some top players would like to pip a few Tendulkar records. One of the longest standing records of Tendulkar is he got the most number of runs in a single World Cup. Tendulkar scored 673 runs in the 2003 WC, where India finished second best to Australia. Tendulkar bagged the Man of the tournament for his brilliant batting throughout the tournament. In that tournament in South Africa, Tendulkar slammed six fifties and a century. Many cricketers have come close to overtaking the little master but have failed. The record still stands after 16 years. Matthew Hayden (659 in 2007), Mahela Jayawardene (548 in 2007), Martin Guptill (547 as recently as 2015) came close but could not go past Tendulkar.

Given the flat nature of wickets that will be on offer for the batsmen in England and Wales during the course of the World Cup, many modern greats like would look to go past Tendulkar’s record.

Virat Kohli: He is the No 1 batsman in the world and he pushes the limit like no other cricketer. He is a run machine and he would look to go past Tendulkar’s 673 runs. Kohli has a good knowledge of the pitches and the conditions in England which will be an added advantage.

David Warner: The Australian made a strong comeback after being banned for 12 months following the ball-tampering scandal that rocked the cricketing world. Warner made an IPL return in style as he bagged the Orange Cap, despite not playing all the league games. He is in red-hot form and he is hungry to prove a point. David Warner smashed 692 runs from just 12 matches at 69.20 during the IPL for the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise.

Rohit Sharma: The Indian opener has got the gift of timing and on his day he can rattle any bowling attack. He will get all 50 overs and that will give him a better opportunity to get those runs. Rohit Sharma has amassed more than 1000 runs in ODIs in 2017 and 2018. He is the most successful IPL captain has already scored 556 runs in the ongoing season. He has the gift of hitting daddy tons which is great from an Indian point of view.
