New Delhi: India captain Virat Kohli during the day one of the third Test against Sri Lanka at Feroz Shah Kotla joined the 5,000 Test runs club. The right-hander becomes the 11th Indian to score 5,000 runs in Test cricket. He also became the fourth fastest Indian batsman after Sunil Gavaskar (95 innings), Virender Sehwag (98) & Sachin Tendulkar (103) to reach the milestone. Meanwhile, Kohli is the second youngest Indian batsman to enter the 5,000 Test runs club. Tendulkar was 25 years and 301 days old when he reached the 5,000 runs while Kohli is 29 years and 27 days old. India after winning the toss, opted to bat first. The hosts, however, lost Shikhar Dhawan and Cheteshwar Pujara before the lunch. Both looked solid to start with but eventually fell after the lapse in concentration.
At lunch, India were 116 for two with Vijay and Kohli batting on 51 and 17 respectively. After the break, Kohli scored the majority of the runs as the partnership between the two was nearing the 100-run mark. The Indian captain in the process completed his half-century as well.
