Indian captain Virat Kohli finally joins the bandwagon to congratulate Sunil Chhetri and the Indian team on their victory over Kenya to lift the Intercontinental Cup 2018. It was the famed Indian football captain Sunil Chhetri, who led the Blue Tigers from the front to eventually get glory for his nation. His growing popularity is also evident with his rise of followers on social media. Chhetri scored 8 goals from 4 matches, including a hat-trick and two brace. His brace in the finals against Kenya was also the difference between the two teams. Both the goals by Chhetri came in the first half (8th & 28th minute).

Chhetri also equaled Lionel Messi to the 2nd spot in the list of highest individual international goal scorer list of active players. Chhetri along with Messi have 64 goals apiece. It was Chhetri’s appeal that drew crowds to the Andheri Sports Complex. Chhetri had made the appeal ahead of his momentous 100th international, following which Bollywood celebrities also backed the cause, which in turn helped. In fact, the tickets for the finals was sold out 72 hours before the finals.

Here is how Indian captain Virat Kohli congratulated the goal machine. Virat’s post from couple of hours back read,”Champions!!!! Another stellar performance from our captain @chetrisunil11 and the entire team last night. This will surely provide a much needed boost for @IndianFootball. Keep up the spirit boys.

We are sure this message from the Indian captain will go a long way in motivating the Blue Tigers, who embark on a new challenge soon that would be the AFC Asian Cup 2019.
