Known to express his strong India centric sentiments through his social media profiles – former opener Virender Sehwag has once again come up with a beautiful post to appreciate the return of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman on Friday. The Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot is expected to be received by Air Force delegation of the at the Wagah Border late in the evening. Abhinandan, who had shot down a Pakistani fighter jet before his plane went down over the Line of Control (LoC) on Wednesday during the first aerial encounter between the countries in nearly half a century. He was captured by Pakistan army before Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan announced his release as a “peace gesture”, signalling the easing of tension between the two countries.
Lauding Abhinandan’s bravery, effort, and courage – the 40-year old Sehwag took to his official Twitter account to share a heartwarming post. He wrote, “How proud we are to have you ! Bow down to your skills and even more your grit and courage 🙏 # WelcomeBackAbhinandan. We love you and are filled with pride because of you. #WeAreSupposedToTellYouThis”
Earlier in the day, the Indian High Commission in Islamabad had completed the travel documentation of IAF pilot. Reportedly, Pakistani authorities will bring him from Rawalpindi to Lahore and hand him over to the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) under rules of the Geneva Convention. The IAF pilot Abhinandan’s MiG 21 was shot and he bailed out after bringing down one Pakistani F-16 fighter during a dogfight as three Pakistani jets violated Indian airspace in Jammu and Kashmir’s Nowshera and Poonch on Wednesday. He has been in Pakistan since then.
