New Delhi: The Kerala Cricket League (KCL) 2025 clash between Kochi Blue Tigers and Aries Kollam Sailors concluded in a thrilling finish on Sunday in Thiruvananthapuram.

Coming in to bat first Kollam posted a massive total of 236/5 in 20 overs against Vishnu Vinod and skipper Sachin Baby who scored 94 and 91 runs respectively. Later, team India star wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson scored an impressive 121 off just 51 deliveries but it was Muhammad Ashik’s last-ball heroics that helped the Tigers secure a victory.

Ashik hit a huge six which help Kochi Tigers secure a trilling victory

In the final over, the Tigers needed 17 runs to win. Ashik, alongside Sharifuddeen, started with a boundary and a six off the first two balls. He then took a single on the third ball, bringing Alfi Francis John on strike. On the fourth ball, Sharifuddeen dismissed John for 7 as he attempted a single.

John managed to get Ashik back on strike after he was run out, but the he was unable to score any runs on the fifth ball. The Tigers needed a maximum on the sixth and final delivery, so Ashik hit a huge six to get Kochi over the finish line with four wickets remaining.

Sanju Samson was awarded the Player of the Match

Sanju Samson was awarded the Player of the Match as he scored an impressive century. This was Kochi’s third consecutive win in the KCL 2025.

In his 42-match T20I career for India, Samson has accumulated 861 runs in 38 innings at an average of 25.38, including three centuries and two fifties. Since last year, he has reinvented himself as an opener, hitting three centuries in five innings across series against Bangladesh and South Africa.

Sanju Samson has been picked in the squad for Asia Cup 2025, which is scheduled to begin from September 9.
