T20 World Cup 2026: Abhishek Sharma dropped a simple catch of Roston Chase on the fifth delivery of the fifth over, bowled by Jasprit Bumrah. Chase, promoted up the batting order, went for a big shot but was deceived by the pacer's slower delivery, resulting in a missed opportunity for India.
Earlier, in Arshdeep Singh's over, Chase sprinted halfway down the pitch while Hope remained stationary. Varun Chakravarthy made a brilliant stop at cover but misfired with his throw, sending it to the bowler's end instead of the keeper's end, leaving Chase well out of his crease. Had the throw gone to the correct end, Chase would have been run out.

Before India could recover from that error, Abhishek Sharma dropped gave Chase lifeline. Chase went for a big shot against a slower delivery, sending the ball high in the air toward extra cover. Sharma, running in from his position, seemed perfectly placed, and the ball landed in his hands but he failed to hold on.
The coach and teammates were obviously unhappy with the fielding errors, and the sitter drop left the Indian dugout stunned. Although Bumrah remained composed as usual, the look on his face said a lot. Chase was permitted to proceed despite the lack of such opportunities

In a crucial moment during the 18th over of Arshdeep, Abhishek missed another catch. Powell played a stylish flick off a full delivery on leg stump, connecting it off the toe end of the bat. Sharma ran in and managed to get both hands on the ball during the dive, but it popped out as his elbows hit the ground, resulting in a dropped catch and a let-off for the West Indies batsman.
