Jitesh Sharma-lead India ‘A’ team stumbled to a eight-wicket loss to Pakistan ‘A’ in their second Group B match of Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025 tournament in Doha on Sunday. Chasing 137 to win, Irfan Khan Niazi’s Pakistan ‘A’ overhauled the target in only 13.2 overs with opener Maaz Sadaqat leading the way with 79 off 47 balls with 4 sixes and 7 fours.
Indian captain Jitesh Sharma had continued the tradition set by Team India T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav by refusing the customary handshake with his Pakistani counterpart after the toss. After the match, there was a viral claim on social media that Team India member decided to shake hands with victorious Pakistan ‘A’ team.
However, a video debunked this viral claim with India ‘A’ team clearly deciding not to shake hands with any of the cricketers from their arch-rivals Pakistan. Unbeaten batter Sadaqat and Mohammad Faiq kissed the turf and then walked to the pitch to be greeted by the Pakistan ‘A’ squad coming out from the dug-out.

Tempers had flared up during the contest between India and Pakistan as Pakistani bowler Saad Maqsood had given an aggressive send off to Indian batter Naman Dhir after dismissing him for 35. The relations between India and Pakistan cricket teams have been very volatile after India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’ carried out in response to Pahalgam terrorist attack earlier this year.
Indian team refused to shake hands with any Pakistan cricketer during their three matches in their victorious Asia Cup 2025 in UAE earlier this year. Suryakumar Yadav’s Team India also refused to accept the winner’s trophy from ACC President and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and it is still lying in ACC headquarters.
Earlier, opting to field after winning the toss, Pakistan ‘A’ staged a brilliant comeback to bowl out India ‘A’ for 136 after they were cruising along at 91 for 2 in the 10th over. In reply, the Shaheens chased down the target of 137 with as many as 40 balls to spare for their second successive victory in the tournament.
Opener Maaz Sadaqat top-scored for Shaheens with an unbeaten 47-ball 79, capping off a brilliant all-round effort after taking two wickets with his left-arm spin. During his knock, Sadaqat struck seven fours and four sixes while also getting a life when Vaibhav Suryavanshi dropped a sitter at point.
Asked to bat first, Rajasthan Royals batting sensation Suryavanshi, who is only 14 years of age, smashed his way to a 28-ball 45 and Naman Dhir smashed a 20-ball 35 before the bowlers brought Pakistan back into the contest, with medium pacer Shahid Aziz claiming 3/24 in three overs.
