WATCH: Jasprit Bumrah steals the spotlight at Coldplay Concert as Chris Martin dedicates special song

Jasprit Bumrah was present at the Coldplay concert in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The fast bowler was spotted in a black shirt, enjoying the event at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

New Delhi: India’s fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, attended Coldplay’s second concert in Ahmedabad on Sunday, 26th January. Currently sidelined from the Indian team due to a back injury, Bumrah was spotted enjoying the event. The crowd erupted in cheers when Coldplay’s lead vocalist, Chris Martin, acknowledged him from the stage.

The British band paid a special tribute to Bumrah by performing a few lines in his honour. They humorously mentioned that they weren’t too fond of him outshining England in cricket matches.

“O Jasprit Bumrah, my beautiful brother. The best bowler in the whole of cricket. We did not enjoy watching you destroy England, wicket after wicket,” Coldplay sang at the concert.

Coldplay also showcased Bumrah’s signed Test jersey on stage as a tribute to the pacer at his home ground in Ahmedabad. This wasn’t the first time the band acknowledged Bumrah during their India concerts. In their earlier Mumbai performance, Coldplay had featured a video of Bumrah tearing through the England batting order in their 2024 Test series.

During the same performance, Chris Martin playfully remarked that Coldplay had received a legal notice from Bumrah’s attorneys for mentioning his name at the concert. Martin then read the fictional letter out loud to the audience.

“I’m so sorry, but I have to read a letter from Jasprit Bumrah’s lawyer. I have to do this because, otherwise, we could be sent to prison and wouldn’t be able to perform in Ahmedabad,” Martin had said.

Throughout the concerts, there were numerous other mentions of Bumrah, leading up to the exciting moment when he made his appearance at the event. Sunday’s performance was streamed live on Hotstar, and Indian cricket fans were in awe when they spotted Bumrah on TV. For once, the fast bowler wasn’t on the field with the ball, instead taking some well-deserved time off from the national team.

Jasprit Bumrah’s injury concern:
Bumrah is currently sidelined from the Indian squad due to a back issue he sustained during the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He was omitted from India’s T20I and ODI squads for the series against England. The pacer is aiming to recover in time for the Champions Trophy, which begins on February 19. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar mentioned that Bumrah’s participation in the group stage of the ICC event will depend on his recovery.
