India clinched the five-Test series 4-0 against England at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, in Chennai. The hosts defeated the visitors by an innings 75 runs. As Indian clinched the series local lad Murali Vijay remained at the ground while rest of the team left for the dressing room. Vijay expressed his gratitude the curators and the ground staffs of the Chepauk stadium. The ground staffs did an outstanding job preparing a pitch for the five-day match just after the Cyclone Vardah wrecked havoc in Chennai.

After India’s victory in Mumbai Test, many stories were coming out of Chennai days before the commencement of the fifth Test of how the cyclone hit city would get back to their normal life. But, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) showed their grit and made the stadium ready for the fifth and final Test. Just a day before the match, ground staffs were seen using hot coal to make a hard pitch for the Test.  It was learnt that ground staffs at Chepauk had made sure that the field had enough cover to protect it from the harsh winds and rains lashing the rest of the city.  As soon as the storm settled, the curators and ground staffs got to work on the parts of the stadium that needed fixing and smooth out any rough edges that the pitch may have sustained in the cyclone. As the ground staffs had not left any rough, the match ended without any ruffle. So after the end of the match, Murali Vijay embraced the pitch curator Chepauk curator PR Viswanathan who said, “Trees fall, grass doesn’t fall.”
