The India vs Pakistan match in the Women’s World Cup has seen several controversies. First, the handshake issue grabbed attention, then there was confusion during the toss, and now a Pakistani batter’s dismissal has caused fresh drama. The match was halted for several minutes due to an argument involving Pakistan captain Fatima Sana. India’s top all-rounder Deepti Sharma ran out the batter in a sharp and sudden move. Muneeba got distracted for a moment, and in just seconds, she was out.
This incident happened on the last ball of the fourth over, bowled by Kranti Goud. Deepti Sharma fired a quick throw that hit the stumps directly, and Muneeba Ali was run out without even attempting a run. Kranti had bowled an incoming delivery that confused Muneeba. India appealed strongly but didn’t go for the review. The ball deflected off Muneeba and reached Deepti, who didn’t miss the chance. Muneeba didn’t try to run, but carelessly left her bat outside the crease. Deepti’s direct hit caught her short, and she was given out as her bat was in the air when the ball hit the stumps.

Muneeba’s run-out led to a big controversy on the field. Pakistan captain Fatima argued with the umpire, and the match was stopped for several minutes. Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was also seen having a word with the officials. In the end, Muneeba had to leave the field. This was Pakistan’s first wicket, falling at just 6 runs. After that, Kranti Goud stepped up and dismissed two more batters, putting India in control.
According to Rule 30.1 of cricket, a batter is considered out of their ground if no part of their body or bat is touching the ground behind the popping crease at that end. However, a batter is not out of their ground if they are running or diving toward the crease and some part of their body or bat is grounded behind or beyond the crease — even if contact is lost afterward. In Muneeba’s case, since she wasn’t running or diving and her bat had lifted off the ground while outside the crease, she was seen as out of her ground and was given out as per the rule.
