New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi has grabbed the attention of the fans with a touching gesture for Indian women’s team batter Pratika Rawal. Harmanpreet Kaur-led squad visited the Prime Minister’s residence on Wednesday to celebrate their Women’s World Cup victory.

Pratika, who was India’s second-highest run-scorer in the tournament scoring 308 runs from six matches, was sidelined ahead of the semi-final due to a hairline fracture and, as a result, missed out on receiving a winner’s medal after the final.

PM Modi personally served refreshments to Pratika Rawal

During the team’s visit, Pratika was seated in a wheelchair. Seeing her struggle to eat, PM Modi stepped in personally and served refreshments to the injured opening batter, Aapko koi kuch de nahi raha, kya pasand hai aapko?” PM Modi asked Pratika before serving a dish to her.

Pratika expressed her gratitude to the PM for his kind gesture, but PM Modi cheekily asked if she had enjoyed the dish. “Do you like it or not?” said PM Modi.

Shafali Verma replaced Pratika Rawal

Shafali Verma earned a call-up ahead of the semi-final as a replacement of Pratika in the squad. She palyed an impactful role in the final. The young opener was awarded the Player of the Match trophy for delivering an all-round performance, scoring 87 off 78 balls and picking 2 for 36, guiding India to their first-ever Women’s World Cup triumph.

Shafali experienced a remarkable turnaround, having last played ODIs in October before making a return for the semifinals against Australia. Her T20I form was impressive as she scored 176 runs in five innings, which included a fifty, at a strike rate above 158 and she had a standout Women’s Premier League season with Delhi Capitals, scoring 304 runs in nine innings at an average of 38.00, her low ODI average in the early 20s and inconsistency in high-pressure matches had previously kept her out of the ODI squad.
