New Delhi: India defeated Pakistan by 5 wickets in the final of the Asia Cup 2025 to win their historic ninth title. However, a 45-minute delay in the post-match presentation surprised everyone. Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri expressed his displeasure over this issue.
Refusing to Accept the Trophy and Organizers' Negligence
After the final match played at the Dubai International Stadium, the Indian team refused to accept the trophy from ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi. Naqvi, who is also the PCB Chairman and a minister in the Pakistan government, was present on stage but did not present any awards. He immediately left the stadium after posing for photographs.
Ravi Shastri's Strong Reaction
During a live discussion on Sony Sports Network, Ravi Shastri said that making the players wait 45 minutes to receive the trophy was completely unacceptable. According to him, "After a big match like the final, the players should be able to celebrate immediately, but the organizers put the players in unnecessary uncertainty."
Match Excitement and India's Victory
India was set a target of 147 runs to win. The team was in trouble early on, losing three wickets within 20 runs. However, Tilak Verma withstood the pressure and scored an unbeaten 69. Sanju Samson (24 runs) and Shivam Dube (33 runs) also made significant contributions. In the end, Rinku Singh hit the winning shot to give India the win.
Pakistan's Innings Collapse
Pakistan were once in a strong position at 113/1. But Kuldeep Yadav's lethal bowling turned the tables. He dismissed Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Shaheen Afridi, and Faheem Ashraf, restricting Pakistan to 146.
