New Delhi: Star India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson finally opened up on wearing the iconic Chennai Super Kings yellow, he said the feeling is just as surreal and powerful as he had always imagined. In a major shake-up before the IPL 2026 mini-auction, CSK brought Samson on board in a blockbuster trade with Rajasthan Royals, a deal that sent Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran in the opposite direction.

In a video shared by Chennai Super Kings on social media, Samson spoke about the moment he had been waiting for. Wearing the yellow No. 11 jersey for the first time, he revealed that the move had brought out strong emotions.

“I have been waiting for this day and I’m very fortunate that I am going to wear the yellow jersey,” he said.

Sanju Samson represented Rajasthan Royals in 11 season

Samson has represented Rajasthan Royals in 11 seasons, where he donned the darker-coloured jersey. He described the feeling of wearing CSK’s colours as very overwhelming.

“I always am in my dark colours like black, blue, brown, but yellow. Definitely, I think great feeling,” he said.

He added, ” wear that jersey, I never thought about how I would feel after wearing CSK… it felt positive and I felt very happy. It felt different, like a different energy. I felt like a champion. I felt like, okay, wow.”

CSK parted with long-time stalwart Ravindra Jadeja

CSK’s decision to bring in Samson comes after years of discussions about who might take over the charge from MS Dhoni. In 177 IPL games, Samson has scored 4,704 runs, which includes three centuries and 26 fifties, Samson joins the franchise as one of the IPL’s most experienced Indian batters.

However, securing Samson meant making a tough call. CSK parted with long-time stalwart Ravindra Jadeja and England all-rounder Sam Curran in the three-way trade. Jadeja, who spent 12 seasons with the franchise and is one of the IPL’s most experienced players, will now represent Rajasthan Royals at a revised price of Rs 14 crore. Samson, meanwhile, comes to CSK at his existing fee of Rs 18 crore.
