Star India pacer Umran Malik made a remarkable return to cricket on Tuesday, picking up two wickets in Jammu and Kashmir’s Buchi Babu tournament clash against Odisha. The speedster struck early, dismissing openers Om T Munde and Binaya K within three deliveries to hand his team a perfect start. On the second over’s penultimate ball, Munde tried to play a defensive shot, but an inside edge sent the ball crashing onto the stumps.
Umran blasted Binaya’s middle-stump with an impressive delivery
On the opening delivery of the third over, Umran knocked over Binaya’s middle stum with a sensational delivery. Significantly, this marked his first outing since March 2024, when he last featured for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) against Mumbai Indians in the IPL.

Following his release from SRH, he was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for his base price of Rs 75 lakhs. However, he was ruled out due to an injury and was replaced by Chetan Sakariya in March before the start of the season.
Umran Malik is also known as ‘Jammu Express’
Umran who played for a duration of four years with SRH, is also known as ‘Jammu Express’ for consistently bowling at a speed of over 150 kmph. During his stint with SRH from 2021-24, Umran grabbed 29 wickets in 26 matches at an average of 26.62 and an economy rate of 9.39, with best figures of 5/25.
He was in a red-hot form in IPL 202, where he picked 22 wickets at an average of 20.18, He was the top wicket-taker for his team and overall at fourth that season.
Umran made made his India debut in 2022 against Ireland
Umran’s impressive performance led to his selection in the Indian team in June 2022 for the series against Ireland. Since then, he has played in 10 ODIs and 8 T20Is for the Men in Blue, picking 13 wickets in the 50-over format at an average of 30.69, with his best bowling figures being 3/57. In the T20 format, he has taken 11 wickets at an average of 22.09, with best figures of 3/48.
He last played a match for India in ODI during July 2023 against West Indies, in which he failed to take any wicket and conceded 27 runs in his three overs.
