New Delhi: An emotional moment took place during the Super Four match between India and Sri Lanka in the 2025 Asia Cup, as Team India captain Suryakumar Yadav met and comforted young Sri Lankan spinner Dunith Wellalage.

Wellalage grappling with the loss of his father

22-year-old Dunith Wellalage recently lost his father, Suranga Wellalage. Sri Lankan coach Sanath Jayasuriya informed him of the tragic news after the group match against Afghanistan. He returned to Colombo after his father’s death, but soon returned to Dubai for the Super Four stage.

Suryakumar Yadav approached Wellalage directly at the Dubai International Stadium, placed a hand on his chest, and comforted him. They spoke for about two minutes, with Suryakumar offering continuous support while Wellalage listened and nodded. Team Support

Wellalage failed to take a wicket in the match against Bangladesh and was subsequently dropped from the squads for the matches against Pakistan and India. However, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha, coach Mike Hesson, and manager Naveed Akram met with him and expressed their support.
