New Delhi: Suryakumar Yadav has been in the headlines since September 14, after India defeated Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025. Leading from the front, the India captain scored an unbeaten 47 and helped his team to a successful chase of 128 in just 15.5 overs. Yet, it wasn’t his batting that drew the most attention.
After the match, Suryakumar walked off the field without the customary handshake with Pakistan players. He later dedicated the victory to the Indian Armed Forces and expressed solidarity with the families of those who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 victims.
The no-handshake incident quickly escalated into controversy, and Pakistan even attempted at withdrawing from the tournament. While no such step was taken, Suryakumar Yadav continued to remain at the center of the spotlight.
Now, Suryakumar Yadav’s actions towards Oman following the Asia Cup 2025 clash are also making headlines. He spent time interacting with the Oman players and shared a warm hug with Karachi-born Aamir Kaleem. The Oman opener had earlier played an impressive knock of 64 off 46 balls, giving India a few tense moments before his team eventually fell short by 21 runs while chasing 189.
Suryakumar Yadav, who is known for his thoughtful gestures, once again won hearts on Friday evening. The Indian T20I skipper brought smiles to the faces of the Oman players with a simple yet touching act that went beyond the result of the Asia Cup clash. Oman had put up a spirited fight before losing by 21 runs to the tournament heavyweights, and as players were resting in side the ground after the post-match formalities, Surya walked over and was welcomed by deputy head coach Sulakshan Kulkarni.

Kulkarni, a former Mumbai wicketkeeper who has watched Surya’s journey since his under-16 days, needed no persuasion. With just a single request, SKY walked over, smiling and eager to exchange a few words with Jatinder Singh and his teammates.
“Surya spoke about the game and praised us, which means a lot. Our boys had questions on how to play in different phases of the T20 game. It was really nice to have a chat with him,” Oman skipper Jatinder said.
For the Oman players, the conversation was more about validation as Suryakumar took his time to recognize their impressive fight. Soon after, phone were out, and Surya happily obliged by taking selfies and a group photo of the Oman cricket players, who were beaming like they had just won a trophy.
