New Delhi: South Africa dominated day one of the second Test against Bangladesh at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. Batting first, the Proteas took charge, posting a solid 307/2 by stumps, putting the hosts, the Tigers, under pressure early in the match.

De Zorzi, in a moment of pure elation, lifted his helmet as the ball raced to the boundary and celebrated with Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer’s signature gesture. It was a composed, “ice-cold” innings from the opener on a scorching day in Chattogram, where patience and grit were key to earning runs.

The Proteas’ choice to bat first on a lush pitch paid off handsomely. Skipper Aiden Markram looked poised for a substantial innings, but a soft dismissal cut his promising knock short.

From there, De Zorzi, well-set on 32, joined forces with Tristan Stubbs to accelerate the scoring. Stubbs reached a well-earned century before falling as Taijul Islam’s second wicket. Their commanding 201-run partnership gave South Africa a firm grip on the game, ending the day with De Zorzi unbeaten on 141 alongside David Bedingham.
