New Australian opener Travis Head continued his golden run at the top of the order with his second century of the ongoing Ashes 2025 series against England. After his brilliant ton in the opening Test of the series in Perth, Head notched up 142 not out on Day 3 of the 3rd Ashes Test at the Adelaide Oval on Friday to help Australia take a massive step toward retaining the Ashes.
Thanks to Head’s brilliant ton, Australia have extended their lead over England to 356 runs with six wickets still intact. However, Head’s 11th Test century wasn’t without its share of hiccups.
He got a massive reprieve while batting on 99 as England vice-captain Harry Brook dropped tough chance at gully off Jofra Archer’s bowling. Head went for a cut shot which went low to Brook at gully, who shelled the offering.
Dropped on 99, kissing the deck for 100!

Head was stuck on eight balls without scoring while on 99 and then advanced down the track and drove the ball over Joe Root’s head to the long-on boundary to move to his century. The Sunrisers Hyderabad batter equaled the record of legendary Sir Donald Bradman with his fourth successive century in Tests at Adelaide Oval – his home ground.
The Australian southpaw equaled former captain Michael Clarke, who had also scored four successive hundreds at Adelaide Oval. Apart from Clarke, Bradman and Steve Smith had achieved this feat at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
At stumps on Friday, Head was unbeaten on 142 off 196 balls with two sixes and 13 fours and his unbroken partnership with fellow South Australian Alex Carey (52) was 122 runs already. Australia were 271 for 4, with a lead of 356.
“I got the rise out of the dressing room that I expected,” he said in comments published by Fox Sports. He added, more seriously, that his hometown ‘wicket has looked after me over the last few years’.
“I didn’t think I’d get one, so to get four (centuries at the Adelaide Oval) is not too bad. I felt alright.”
Brook had taken two excellent catches in the slips to remove Marnus Labuschagne (13) and Cameron Green (7) off Josh Tongue’s bowling, but the one he missed against Head proved to be costly.
Earlier, the Aussies returned to bat after dismissing England for 286 just before lunch, after England captain Ben Stokes and Archer had cut the first-innings margin to 85 with a record 106-run ninth-wicket stand.
Stokes walked off the field yelling after being bowled for 83 by Mitchell Starc – for the sixth time in his career – bringing an end to a marathon 198-ball innings.
