Rajasthan Royals and Bihar opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi was bestowed with a huge honour in New Delhi on Friday. The 14-year-old cricket prodigy collected his Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar – the highest civilian honour for children in India.
Suryvanshi collected the award from the President of India Droupadi Murmu in the Capital on Friday. As a result, the Bihar batter had to miss the second match of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 against Manipur in Ranchi.
The video of Suryavanshi collecting the award went viral on social with the Bihar youngster’s IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals posting it on social media. “Meet the newest recipient of the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar, the highest civilian honor for children. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi,” RR captioned the video.

After collecting the award, Suryavanshi and the other recipients of the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar will also get the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Friday.
Suryavanshi is among the 20 young achievers honoured this year, with the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar which recognises exceptional accomplishments across sport, bravery, innovation, science, social service and culture for children aged between five and 18.
“Your achievements inspire the entire country. Every child honoured today is equally important and valued. It is because of such gifted children that India continues to shine on the global stage,” President Droupadi Murmu said on Friday.
The Bihar opener had shattered multiple records on the opening day of the VHT 2025-26 tournament. Suryavanshi had smashed his career-best List A score of 190 as Bihar piled up a record total of 574 against Arunachal Pradesh in Ranchi on Wednesday.
The opener became the youngest-ever List A centurion at the age of only 14 years and 272 days after being becoming the youngest-ever IPL century-maker earlier in this year’s IPL 2025 season. Suryavanshi, who was bought for Rs 1.1 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction last year, had smashed his maiden IPL century against Gujarat Titans.
The RR star also smashed 15 sixes in his knock of 190 – the second-highest in List A after Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 16 sixes. His hundred also came off 36 balls, one of the fastest in List A history.
Only Bihar skipper Sakibul Gani’s 32-ball ton and Ishan Kishan’s 33-ball century were faster than Suryavanshi’s ton on Friday.
