Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed his first half-century in Australia studded with 6 sixes in the second one-dayer between India Under-19 and Australia Under-19 in Brisbane.

Rajasthan Royals batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been setting the cricketing world on first ever since he was bought for Rs 1.1 crore by Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan Royals. On Wednesday, the 14-year-old India Under-19 opener smashed another record during his whirlwind knock of 70 in the second One-day match against Australia Under-19 at the Ian Healy Oval in Brisbane.

Suryavanshi clobbered six sixes and five fours in his 68-ball knock to power India Under-19 team to 300 after batting first against the Australians before falling to skipper Yash Deshmukh. With his 5th six, Suryavanshi surpassed former India Under-19 captain Unmukt Chand’s record of most sixes by a batter at this level.

While Chand had smashed 38 sixes in 21 innings, Suryavanshi zoomed past this record in just 10 innings. The RR opening batter has now managed to hit 41 sixes in his 10 innings while scoring 541 runs so far.

Apart from Suryavanshi and Chand, current Team India Test opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has the most maximums in Youth One-Day cricket. Suryavanshi’s RR teammate Jaiswal had struck 30 sixes in the 27 matches he played between 2018 and 2020.

Batters with most sixes in Under-19 cricket

Aged only 14, Suryavanshi already holds numerous records as he became the youngest player to feature in the Indian Premier League. He then went on to become the youngest centurion in the history of IPL and also scored the second-fastest IPL ton ever against Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans in Jaipur earlier this year.

During the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season, Suryavanshi made his debut at the age of just 12 years and 284 days against Mumbai, becoming the youngest player in the tournament’s history. He also hammered the fastest Youth ODI hundred off just 52 balls, bettering the world record previously held by Pakistan’s Kamran Ghulam, who scored a 53-ball century in 2019. In the same innings, he broke the Indian record for the most sixes in a single match (10).

At 13 years and 188 days, he became the youngest centurion in the 170-year history of competitive cricket. He also set the record for the fastest century by an Indian at the youth level with a 58-ball hundred against Australia in the 1st Youth Test in Chennai. His 58-ball ton stands is the second-fastest ever at this level, just behind former England all-rounder Moeen Ali’s century in 56 balls.
