The Kabaddi World Cup got over not long ago but considering it has been over two months, there has been a long enough dry spell for the sport. And eventually it is some throwback time. The story of kabaddi beyond the domestic league is interesting too. It is a low-profile sport, played by sportsmen who do not have fame and money as a good friend. But it is a sport that India have dominated internationally.
They often say that for any sport to become big in India, it has to have international success as its close friend. Kabaddi fulfils that criteria. Although I am not sure if it is a justifiable criteria. Just ask United States of America, Australia, Canada and Ireland, where domestic sports and leagues have long flourished. Talking further on international success, people will say that the success internationally has come in a sport that is basically played by amateurs with a low profile to go with. But maybe India just need to stop finding excuses and work towards having kabaddi as a major sport in this land. How badly we as a country crave and need a second major sport.
