West Indies gave former World Test champions Australia a run for their money in the first Test before bowing down to a 159-run loss at Bridgetown in Barbados last week. Pat Cummins-led Australia will now look to seal a series win when they take on Roston Chase’s side in the second Test beginning in Grenada from Thursday.
Australia have got a major boost with the return of batter Steve Smith into the line-up. Smith has been battling a broken finger since the WTC 2025 final loss to South Africa last month. Australian wicket-keeper Alex Carey revealed that Smith had done everything expected of him in an effort to make an early return.
“(He’s a) class player. Think anytime you add 10,000 runs back into the line-up, you’re going to be pretty happy with it. So we’ll wait and see,” Carey said in the pre-match press conference.
“Obviously, he’s having a hit out here. He seems pretty confident and he’s excited to get back in. But also, it’s been tough at the top of the order, so to add I guess a little bit more experience is good for the group, but I think they’re doing a pretty good job as well,” he added.

Smith will come into the playing 11 at the expense of backup wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis. Aussies will look to play the same squad apart from the one change.
West Indies, on the other hand, are considering whether they can play an extra pacer in Anderson Phillip in place of left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican.
