Finally, the moment has arrived everyone has been waiting for as cricket god – Sachin Tendulkar has took to Twitter to appreciate his ‘good friend’ Roger Federer straight drive. The 20-time Grand Slam champion Federer showed off his copybook forward defence in a Wimbledon Round of 16 match against France’s Adrian Mannarino. His left-handed shot left many stunned and also got the attention of none other than his cricket friend Sachin Tendulkar.
Replying to Wimbledon’s Tweet on Federer’s forward defence, the legendary cricketer not only lauded former’s effort but also agreed to share notes with him after the Grand Slam event. Tendulkar wrote, As always, great hand-eye coordination. @rogerfederer, let’s exchange notes on cricket and tennis after you win your 9th @Wimbledon title”

Leading Mannarino by two sets to nil, the 38-year old Federer played a proper cricket drive that brought the entire Wimbledon centre court arena on his toes. Everyone in the audience applauded Federer’s effort including Wimbledon’s official Twitter handle who tagged world cricket body ICC to rate his shot.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) later posted a cheeky reply to Wimbledon’s post and made Federer the number one batsmen in the ICC Batting Rankings.

Federer later won that match easily in straight sets by 6-0, 7-5, 6-4 and advanced to the quarterfinals. Federer has now won 32 consecutive sets at Wimbledon to move within one straight-sets victory of breaking his previous longest streak at the All England Club, when he won 34 in a row between the third round in 2005 and the final in 2006.
Federer will now take on South Africa’s Kevin Anderson in the last-eight clash on Wednesday.
