Former World Number one Novak Djokovic finally ended his long drought of Grand Slam titles with a commanding performance against eight-seed Kevin Anderson to win his 13th major at the prestigious Centre Court of All England Club on Sunday. The Serb beat Anderson in straight sets by 6-2, 6-2 and 7-6 (7-3) in 2 hours and 19 minutes to win his fourth title on the pristine grass-court surface of Wimbledon.
After two sensational weeks at The Championships, Novak is now one behind American great Pete Sampras (14), four behind Spaniard Rafael Nadal (17), seven behind Swiss maestro Roger Federer (20) in the all-time tally of Grand Slam winners.

This was nothing less than a remarkable comeback for Djokovic who was struggling from a long time out due to poor form, injury and personal issues. An elbow injury kept the Serb out of action in the second-half of 2017 from where had to take the long recovery road to return to the winning ways. His epic semifinal against long-time rival Rafael Nadal at the SW19 was a perfect preparation ahead of a much-easier final against Anderson. His form in Wimbledon had silenced his all doubters who questioned him for making a comeback at the top level.
On the other side, the story of Anderson is nothing short of an inspiring tale. But, Anderson’s torturous journey to the finals seems to have taken a toll on him. The lanky South African was playing his second final at a major after losing against US Open final in 2017 against world number one Rafael Nadal.
Both finalists played record-breaking, energy-sapping five-set semi-finals to reach the tournament’s finale. But Anderson’s six-hour-36-minute duel with John Isner at least finished on the day it started on Friday.
The 31-year old Djokovic dictated the terms right from the very start and broke Anderson’s serve in the very first game of the match. Anderson made a nervy start and with Djokovic is getting those serves back it became even more tough for the lesser experienced South African.

After breaking Anderson again in the fifth game, Djokovic served out the first set with total control. An unforced error from Anderson as he slashed a forehand long and it gives Djoker the first break. The Serb kept his intensity up in the second set as well and pounced on all the opportunities to claim the set with utmost ease.
The third set was comparatively the most intense and full of action as both the players held their serves and literally gave nothing away. The set went into a 6-6 tie-break where Djokovic maintain his composure and brought his all experience into play to seal the match and the trophy in his favour.
