Top seed Roger Federer beat 22nd seed France’s Adrian Mannarino 6-0, 7-5, 6-4 in the fourth round of the men’s singles event on Centre Court.

But what stole the show at the Centre Court was the Swiss playing a textbook forward defense that would even make legend Sachin Tendulkar proud. (if Sachin played left-handed)

Against Federer, Mannarino was unable to find his rhythm in the first set, unsure of his ball striking, movement and positioning with Federer winning 25 of the 30 points in the 16-minute passage of play.

It was too many errors by Mannarino on a couple of backhands and one forehand that allowed Federer a 5-0 lead, with the Swiss sealing the first set when Mannarino hit a lob long. Though Mannarino’s strong efforts helped him make a comeback in the game with the 7-5 lead in the second set, his efforts soon went in vein in the third set (6-4).

Federer was easily the superior player with 106 to 70 points over his opposition. He also served 13 aces compared to 6 by his opposition. Federer now takes on K. Anderson who is the 8th seed in this competition.

The 36-year-old has not dropped a set in his favourite slam as yet and looks strong to go the distance for the 9thtime. He has 20 Slams to his name already at the age of 36.

Here are the highlights of the match.

Meanwhile, fans would also know that Roger Federer and Sachin Tendulkar are good friends as well. Tendulkar is also a big Tennis fan and makes it a point to pay a visit to the grass courts. Both are GOATS in their respective sports.

Sachin, who has become quite active on social sphere could actually reply to Roger Federer which could be a treat for the fans.
