Rani Rampal-led India eves beat lesser-ranked Italy 3-0 in London in a Women’s Hockey World Cup 2018 cross-over match. Neither could Italy capitalise on the limited opportunities they got and were totally outplayed in the midfield by India.

It seemed Rani’s side had done their homework on the Italian counterparts. India got on the scoresheet in the 9th-minute of the first quarter. It was a clever move by the 18-year-old to get to the ball in the midst of a scramble in the circle. Soon, India doubled their lead in the 45th-minute of the match, this time it was Neha’s turn to get on the scoresheet and she did it with via assist in the midst of scramble from Gurjit’s shot and the ball found Neha’s final touch in into the post.
And then came the final nail in the coffin from Vandana, who had missed an easy chance earlier. This time she converted in the dying stages of the match, again it was Gurjit at the center of it all. She showed extreme precision as she placed a powerful shot perfectly for Vandana to deflect into the goal. India created history by entering the quarterfinals stage for the first time in the World Cup after 40 years.
Indian eves will now take on Ireland in the next stage on Thursday.
