Women’s Hockey World Cup 2018 Quarterfinals, India vs Ireland Match Report: India locked horns with Ireland in the quarterfinals of the Women’s Hockey World Cup 2018. The match started off with both teams looking to get a feel for the game. But, it was quite upsetting to see both teams making mistakes early on. The defence of both the teams was up to the mark, not allowing any penetration at all. It seemed both the teams had done their homework well. Neha Goyal got a green card and India was down to 10 players for two minutes. This happened in the 21st-minute of the match. India did well to hold their opposition.
The Indian Eves are pushed their limits to attack from both the flanks in their quest of finding a lead against Ireland but Ireland’s defence stood tall against the blue brigade. The Irish goalkeeper also gets credit for keeping them in the game. Rani and Udita combined well but could not find the back of the net. Ireland, on the other hand, tried to push balls in the India D by taking a long shot, but they too could not find the net. And finally, it boiled down to run-in penalties.
India knocked out after a 1-3 defeat in the quarters. It was a heartbreak in the tiebreaker where India could not edge out lesser-ranked Ireland.
