New Delhi: The league stage of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 is underway with the top 8 teams eyeing for the prestigious world champion title. Each team will play 7 matches, and only the top 4 team will secure a spot in the semifinals.
The eight participating teams are India, Australia, England, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, South Africa, New Zealand, and Pakistan. Matches are being played across four Indian venues in Guwahati, Indore, Visakhapatnam, and Navi Mumbai, while in Sri Lanka, Colombo is hosting. The tournament final is scheduled to be played on November 2 and will be held either in Navi Mumbai or Colombo.
In the recent match played on October 5, India Women secured a convincing 88-run victory over Pakistan Women in the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, which helped India to move to the top of the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 points table.
On Saturday the match between Australia W and Sri Lanka W was called off due to heavy rain, and both the teams got 1 point each. The defending champions Australia is currently at the second place with three points in two matches, while England and Bangladesh are at third and fourth with one win each.
Coming to the match, Pakistan won the toss and elected to field first, India got off to a slow start as Smriti Mandhana (23) failed to deliver again, while her Pratika Rawal (31) gave India a solid start. Harleen Deol played a composed knock of 46 runs, falling just four runs short of a half-century.
Pakistan bowlers kept picking wickets at a regular interval which denied the India’s batter any rhythm. Daina Baig picked 4 wickets conceding 69 runs, while skipper Fatima took 2 wickets conceding 38 runs.
Skipper Harmanpreet managed to score only 19 runs, while Jemimah played a crucial knock of 32. Richa Ghosh and Sneh Rana formed an important 42 run stand, which helped India post a fighting total of 247 runs.
Talking about the second innings, Pakistan could manage to score only 159 runs. Sidra Ameen played a crucial knock for her side as she scored 81 off 106 balls, while Natalia Pervaiz added 33. Apart from them the rest of the batters failed to make an impact.
Kranti Goud was the highest wicket taker as she picked 3 wickets conceding 20 runs, she was also named the Player of the match.
