Prime Minister of India in a series of tweets wished Team India good luck ahead of Sunday’s final against England at the Lord’s. This is the second time India are playing World Cup final. Last time they played a World Cup in 2005 when they suffered defeat to Australia. Back in 2005, India under skipper Mithali Raj failed to fulfill the dream. However, after 12 years Women in Blue under veteran Mithali Raj vying for the maiden World Cup title.
Just minutes before the final at the Mecca of cricket Lord’s, PM Modi tweeted, “As our women’s cricket team plays the World Cup finals today, I join the 125 crore Indians in wishing them the very best!”

India under Mithali Raj’s captaincy defeated England, West Indies, Pakistan and New Zealand on their way to final while suffered defeat to Australia and South Africa at the group stage. In the second semifinal, India have defeated Australia by 36 runs, thanks to Hramanpreet Kaur’s mind-blowing 171 off 115 innings.

At the beginning of the tournament, there were no big expectations from the Indian team though they came to play this tournament as one of the balanced sides and were unbeaten in 16 consecutive matches. Proving everyone wrong, Smriti Mandhana, Mithali Raj, Punam Raut, Shikha Pandey Jhulan Goswami and Harmanpreet Kaur led India to final at the Lord’s.
