Minakshi (women’s 48kg), Jaismine Lamboria (women’s 57kg), and Nupur (women’s 80kg) delivered dominant performances in their respective semi-final bouts at the World Boxing Championships 2025 in Liverpool, boosting India’s hopes of winning multiple gold medals.
Minakshi outclassed Mongolia’s Altantsetseg Lutsaikhan with a clear 5-0 win, Jaismine secured a strong 5-0 victory over Venezuela’s Omailyn Carolina Alcala Cegovia, and Nupur proved far superior to Turkey’s Seyma Duztas.
India has sent a 20-member squad to the first-ever edition of the World Championships organized by World Boxing, the sport’s newly formed international body. The team is aiming for a strong showing across both men’s and women’s categories.
Pooja Rani (women’s 80kg) also reached the semifinals and is set to compete against England’s Emily Asquith later today.
In her match, Minakshi completely controlled the ring and didn’t give two-time Asian bronze medallist Lutsaikhan a chance to settle, winning by unanimous decision.
Jaismine and Nupur were equally commanding in their bouts, barely facing any pressure and maintaining control throughout.
In the final matches on Saturday night, Jaismine will face Julia Szeremeta of Poland, the Paris Olympics silver medallist, while Nupur will go up against another top Polish boxer, Agata Kaczmarska, a multiple-time European Championships medal winner.
