New Delhi: 2022 FIFA World Cup winning captain Lionel Messi has expressed his desire to return to Barcelona after his playing days come to an end. He has said that the Catalan city is his home and he will return to live in the city where he made his name.
“When I finish my career, I will return to live in Barcelona, it’s my home,” Messi said in an interview with Dario Ole.
The Argentine has appeared in 778 games for the Catalan giants and has scored a record 672 goals in a career spanning 17 years. He has won every possible trophies with the Blaugranas and under him the 5-time UEFA Champions League winning side reached new heights in world football.
The 35-year old bid goodbye from Spain in 2021, which saw him move to French giants PSG. For his new club, he has scored a total of 25 goals in 57 games so far, making him currently the all-time highest-ever goal-scorer in Europe’s top 5 leagues as he has extended his tally to 697 club goals.
Messi ended his international trophy drought by winning the Copa America in 2021 and then went onto win back to back major titles in Finalissima and the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, thus completing football.
La Pulga said that in March, he’s going to take all the World Cup Final souvenirs to his home in Barcelona as he has his ‘things and memories’ there.
“I kept everything from the final: The boots, the t-shirts… Everything is there on the AFA property and now in March, I’m going to take everything to Barcelona, where I have my things and my memories”, he added.
