Former World Wrestling Entertainment(WWE) Universal champion Roman Reigns has a very captivating character and is one of the biggest fan favorites among the contemporary wrestlers. Ever since making his debut with the shield, Reigns took the WWE by storm as his fame rocketed to remarkable heights. However, his career took a hit after he revealed his battle against leukemia.

Recently, WWE made a presentation to its investors, where Chairman Vince McMahon revealed that the company has suffered loss after losing out on some of the top performers.”The unfortunate aspect of sometimes in our business is that our performers are not cartoons. They get hurt. This year, leading up to where we are now, we’ve had an inordinate number of injuries,” said McMahon. “And when you have injuries, there’s a whole bunch of them. Roman Reigns being the principle among them.

“In addition to that, we’ve had injuries to Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, who is one of our top female performers, was injured. Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Bray Wyatt, Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss, Braun Strowman, Dean Ambrose, Ember Moon, Samoa Joe, Akam (from AOP), Jason Jordan, Fandango, Big Show, Seth Rollins. It’s like we had all these injuries, which is really unusual for us, and they’re characters.

“It’s no different if you’re writing a soap opera and all of a sudden your main character wasn’t there. You’re in the middle of production, what do you do? You very nimbly change the storyline, but it’s not as good as the original one.

“Sometimes it is better because we’re pretty good at it, but those are things that we’re faced with, and one of the reasons why television ratings have dropped. And one of the reasons, obviously, from a live event standpoint, that’s dropped too. Because if you don’t have your favorites on television, obviously you can’t see them at a live event either.”

Although the shows have seen a rise recently averaging about 2.5 million users, it is still lesser than what the company garnered in the past few years.

In October 2018, WWE fans suffered a huge shock as Universal Champion Roman Reigns made a heart-breaking and emotional revelation about his deteriorating health condition due to his long battle with leukemia. Reigns made an official statement about his illness during the live telecast of WWE’s RAW event. He has also forced to give up his championship belt after not being able to compete further at the big stage in world wrestling and entertainment.

Leukaemia is cancer which starts in blood-forming tissue, usually the bone marrow. It leads to the over-production of abnormal white blood cells, the part of the immune system which defends the body against infection.

The four-time world champion told his millions of fans that he had been diagnosed with the disease 11 years ago but was in remission. But he says the leukemia has returned which means he can no longer ‘be that fighting champion’.

During the emotional speech, the 33-year-old star also revealed his real name – Leati Joseph Anoa’i. The father-of-three said he felt like he ‘owed an apology’ – but the wrestling world has rallied in support of the Florida native.

Addressing the crowd, the 33-year-old said: “I feel like I owe everyone an apology”.

“For months, maybe even a whole year, I’ve come out here as Roman Reigns and said I’d come out here every week, that I’d be a fighting champion, that I was going to be consistent, that I was going to be a workhorse — but that’s all lies.

“The reality is, my real name is Joe and I’ve been living with leukemia for 11 years.

“And unfortunately, it’s back. The leukemia is back and unfortunately, because it’s back I can’t fulfill my role, I can’t be that fighting champion. And I’m going to have to relinquish the universal championship,” the Universal Champion added.
