Days after announcing himself as host of WrestleMania, Rob Gronkowski officially made his debut in the WWE be appearing on WWE Smackdown and setting up a match between King Corbin and Elias for the two-day spectacle. Gronkowski’s first Smackdown appearance was interrupted by Corbin, which didn’t make things easy in the ring as the two athletes nearly came to blows. But out came Elias who threw Corbin out of the ring leading to Gronkowski setting up their match at Mania. Former Women’s champion Paige appeared on Smackdown via satellite but she was quickly interrupted by Bayley and Sasha Banks, who not only had disrespectful things to say about her but also mocked fun at her in-ring retirement. Paige however, had the last laugh as she announced a blockbuster six-pack challenge for the Raw Women’s title at Wrestlemania. The feud between Dolph Ziggler and Otis reached a crescendo as Ziggler’s attempt to get inside Otis’ skin backfire for John Morris and The Miz. With the Smackdown tag champs taking on the Heavy Machinery and with Ziggler on commentary, The Showoff tried to catch Otis’ attention by showing his pictures with Mandy Rose on the screen. Irate at what he saw on the TitanTron, Otis went after Ziggler before unleashed a flurry of chair shots on Miz and Morrison and losing via disqualification.
