Yuzvendra Chahal picks five wickets for Northamptonshire in County Championships – WATCH VIDEO
Yuzvendra Chahal signed for Northamptonshire for one one-day game and five matches in County Championships Division Two.
New Delhi: Out of reckoning from the Indian team at the moment, Yuzvendra Chahal picked up five wickets for Northamptonshire on Day 2 of their County Championship Division Two match against Derbyshire. The Indian leggie joined Northamptonshire for their last One-Day Cup game and five County Championship Division Two matches.
Defending 219 from the first innings that Northamptonshire scored, Derbyshire were cruising well with Luis Reece and Wayne Madsen in the middle. However, it was Chahal who broke the partnership with a sensational delivery that sent Madsen packing.
The dismissal of Madsen triggered the collapse for Derbyshire as they went from 93/3 to 165 all out, thus giving the opposition the upper hand. Earlier, Chahal made his Northamptonshire debut against Kent in the One Day Cup and picked up a five-wicket haul too.
He got just one wicket against Middlesex before going wicket-less against Gloucestershire in the County Championship. For the unknown, Chahal was a part of the Indian team that won the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados. However, Chahal didn’t get a single game.

The 34-year-old was then dropped from the Sri Lankan tour in June. Chahal is still the highest-wicket taker for India in the shortest format with 96 scalps in 80 games. In ODIs, Chahal has got 121 wickets in 72 ODIs. “Northamptonshire County Cricket Club are delighted that Indian international Yuzvendra Chahal will join the club for the final One-Day Cup match at Kent and the remaining five County Championship fixtures,” Northamptonshire said in a statement.
“Also previously an India youth international in the sport of chess, Chahal spent time at Kent in the 2023 season, taking nine wickets in two of their three Division One matches of the campaign,” it added. “Yuzvendra is another high-profile overseas player who brings with him a wealth of experience and some incredible skills. His record speaks for itself and his wicket-taking ability will add strength to our attack,” said Northamptonshire head coach John Sadler.
